Error updating windows 7 sp1

Since about the end of January windows update is only listing the following updates: Security... I seem to have an update, but every time I attempt an install of the update, I am awarded with an error message.

My PC proceeds to reboot, fail to update again, reboot, undo changes, and then finally boot to desktop. Windows 7 Forums is an independent web site and has not been authorized, sponsored, or otherwise approved by Microsoft Corporation.

The solution (ID:36716018) to reinstall Windows is the best option at this point.

I have three computers running Windows 7 and I cannot get them to update to the SP1 update that is available.

I'm running Windows 7 ultimate on a Mac, through Bootcamp (Mac Book 2009, 4gb, 2.2ghz), and I'm trying to update to Windows 7 SP1 (or directly to Windows 10 if there's a way) but when trying to install SP1 through Windows update agent I'm getting error code 8e5e0408, or Windows update agent keeps searching for updates forever.

When trying to install it via an downloaded from the Windows software catalog I'm getting error 0x8e5e0408 (this happens after the installer creates a restore point, and while it's installing KB976902, the installer is almost finished installing SP1, about 80% when this error happens).

I all I am unable to install windows 7 sp1 in my Windows 7 laptop.

It will eventually error out with this error message Code 80072EE2. Close Windows Update, wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then run Windows Update again.
